A bit more about the trains
LeFrecce family: Frecciarossa, Frecciargento and Frecciabianca:
Reaching speeds of up to 300km/h, Frecciarossa are the fastest trains in the Trenitalia fleet. Operating on the main Turin-Milan-Bologna-Florence-Rome-Naples route as well as several others, Frecciarossa trains have a restaurant or bar-buffet coach on board and wifi is free. Some Frecciarossa services now also operate on the Milan-Venice and Milan-Ancona-Bari routes. There are 4 classes of travel to choose from: Standard, Premium, Business and Executive.
The maximum speed of a Frecciargento train is 250km/h and these high speed trains serve a number of routes including Venice-Bologna-Florence-Rome, Verona-Bologna-Florence-Rome and Rome-Bari. The trains are air-conditioned and passengers have access to a refreshment trolley and bar-buffet. Wifi is free for all passengers and both First and 2nd class coaches are available.
Last but not least, Frecciabianca trains can travel up to 200km/h and operate on several routes within Italy including Milan-Rimini-Ancona-Pescara-Bari-Brindisi and Milan-Genoa-La Spezia-Pisa-Rome. Passengers have access to a bar-buffet and/or refreshment trolley. Passengers can select from First class and Standard class.
Regular InterCity day and regional trains also operate across Italy and usually have both first and standard class available. For longer journeys, the best option might be an InterCity overnight train. Not only do you save precious sightseeing time by travelling at night, you save on hotel costs too! On board accommodation ranges from 4 and 6 berth couchettes to the more comfortable 1, 2 and 3 berth sleepers, some of which also have showers.
Flexible fare options (available on all long distance routes)
Economy and Super Economy are the best value fares, but they need to be booked in advance to secure the cheapest prices. Super Economy tickets are non exchangeable and non refundable whilst Economy tickets can be exchanged by paying the difference between the Economy fare and the Base fare.
Base fares are the most flexible fare option and tickets can be exchanged free of charge as many times as the customer wishes, prior to travel.
